Active Ingredients :
Povidone iodine{Mundidone) U.s.P 10 g.
Inactive ingredients:
Pclyethylene glycol 400 • Polyethylene glycol 4000 ,sodium bicarhonate,Purified water.

Pharmacological Action:

-BETADINE-Antiseptic Ointment is a powerful and rapidly acting topical germicide for the effective treatment and prophylaxis of skin and wound infections
-BETADINE*Aotiseptic Ointment has the broad microbicidal spectrum of iodine, but is free oflhe undesirable features and disadvantages associated with elemental iodine.
-BETADlNEeAntiseptic Ointment is water soluble and non-staining.     •
-Clinical practice and laboratory invesligations have shown BETADINE Antiseptic Ointment 10 be bactericidal (G+ve and G-ve), fungicidal ,sporicidal, virucidal and protozoa.
-Clinical experience has shown that BETADIN Antiseptic Ointment is not activated by the presence of pus or blood, in addition that the pain in a wound is relieved after application of BETADINE~ntiseptic Ointment and that the healing
process is accelerated.

Pharmacokinetics:

– Povidone iodine complex releases iodine on contact with skin or mucous membranes.
– The activity is thoughtto be due to the oxidizing prepertles of[ree molecular iodine and may also be due to the combination of free iodine with cell protein.

Indications:

Treatment for:
– Bacterial skin infections
– Mycotic skin infections.
– Decubitus and Stasis Ulcers
– Infected abrasions &Pyodermas.
Prophylactic from:
– Major and Minor Burns

Dosage and administration:

Apply BETADINEAntiseptic Ointment liberally on the affected skin and cover with a dressing or bandage if necessary. BETADlNE”Antiseptlc Ointment may be used as often as required. Cleaning and drying of the wound is not necessary.

Contraindications :

– BETADINE~ntiseptic Ointment should be administered with caution to patients with a history of hypersensitivity to iodine ,if redness. swelling or irritation develop ,discontinue use.
– Preterm neonetes of gestational age under 32 weeks.
– Avoid regular use in patients with thyroid disorders or those receiving lithium therapy.

Side effects:

Rarely sensitivity and it may interfere with thyroid function tests.

Drug interactions:

– Compound benzoin tincture.
– Hydrogen peroxide.

Pregnancy and lactation:

Used with caution in pregnancy and lactation”sufficient iodine may be absorbed to affect tbe fetal thyroid” , so used under medical supervtslon .

Precautions and warnings:

– For external use only.
– Do not use in the eyes.
– In case of deep wounds or serious burns,consult pbysician.
– 1f sweuowed.get medical help or contact Poison Control Center right away.
– Do not heat prior to application.
-In rare instances of local irritation or sensitivity,or if irritation and redness develop, discontinue use.
– Application to large areas of broken skin should be avoided as excessive absorption of iodine may occur.

Package and storage:

– Carton box contains tube of 20 or 60 g + inner leaflet.
– Store below 30°c.

Instructions to patients:

– Keep out of reach ofchildren.
– Do not use this product for longer than 1 week unless directed by a doctor.
– Prolonged exposure may-cause irritation or rarely severe skin reaction.
